Set Up AfterShip Personalization in Tracking Emails

AfterShip Personalization is a smart product recommendations tool that helps brands boost AOV and conversions and maximize store revenue. We also utilized advanced AI-powered algorithms, merchandising rules, and various conversion tools to enable upselling across touchpoints—from the home page to the cart page/drawer, checkout page, post-purchase OCU pages, etc.
With AfterShip Personalization, you can activate the smart upsell widget to display personalized product recommendations based on your custom rules, content and theme settings, recommendation types, and A/B testing configuration directly in your AfterShip tracking emails. You must install and connect your Shopify store with AfterShip Personalization.
You must be on AfterShip Personalization’s Trial, Essentials, or above plans to use the AfterShip Personalization recommendation engine in AfterShip Tracking Emails.
You must set up and enable your email notifications and select AfterShip Personalization as the recommendation engine.
In this article, we will show you:
Configure recommendation engine in tracking emails
Set up smart upsell widget
Log in to your AfterShip Tracking admin dashboard.
Go to Notifications > Flows.
Select the flow for which you want to customize the email content. Find the complete list of supported statuses here.
Click Edit. In the flow editor, select Send email > Edit.
Go to the Product recommendations section and choose AfterShip Personalization as the recommendation engine. If you are setting up product recommendations in your tracking emails for the first time, click +Add section > Product recommendations.
If you are using AfterShip Personalization for the first time, click Connect Personalization to install the app.
Once the app is installed, move to the AfterShip Tracking email smart upsell widget section on the AfterShip Personalization admin.
Click Create widget to start building your tracking email recommendation campaign (See the next section for detailed instructions).
Once your widget is set up, its widget ID will automatically sync to your AfterShip Tracking emails. Select the enabled AfterShip Personalization smart upsell widget you want to display in your tracking emails from the Widget ID dropdown. Cross-check the widget ID to ensure the widget you want to enable.
If you have configured multiple stores under AfterShip Personalization and set up multiple smart upsell widgets for each store, they all will be displayed in the dropdown under their respective store names.
Click Edit widget to modify the recommendation rules and interaction styles. You will be redirected to the AfterShip Personalization admin, where you can edit the widget.
Click Create widget to create a product recommendation widget from scratch on the AfterShip Personalization admin.
Hit Save.
Navigate to Smart upsell widgets in the AfterShip Personalization admin.
Move to AfterShip Tracking email under the Notifications section and click Get started.
A widget ID will be automatically created for every pre and post-purchase scenario while setting up the product recommendation rules and configuring widget display and style settings.
Click Create widget to land on the widget editor, where you can customize the recommendation types, display rules, and style settings.
a. Settings: Configure the recommendation type, set up custom display rules, pin your most sought-after products, and exclude certain products from the recommendation algorithm.
Scroll down to Installation, and you will find the widget's unique ID and the complete installation guide to enable the AfterShip Personalization product recommendation widget in the AfterShip tracking email. Just click View instructions to open the popup guide.
The widget code can also be accessed from the widget dashboard and widget editor’s main header.
b. Display: Customize the widget, product recommendation aspect ratio, product info you want displayed below the recommendations, and, the alignment.
c. Styles: Customize the color and font of the various elements of the product recommendation widget to match your tracking emails.
Click Save to auto-enable the widget from the AfterShip Tracking email dashboard.
Shift between the preview options on the top bar to see how the widget would look on both desktop and mobile.
View the performance of your tracking emails' personalization recommendation widget, including impressions, conversion rate, and revenue on the AfterShip Tracking email dashboard.
You can create multiple smart upsell widgets for your tracking emails with different rules and settings based on your end goal. Only one widget can be activated at a time in your tracking emails, irrespective of how many widgets are activated in the AfterShip Personalization admin.
