Overview



AfterShip provides merchants with the option to use phone number verification as a security measure to ensure that users are who they claim to be, thus providing a first line of defense against fraudulent activities. The extra layer of security that comes with the implementation of of phone verification will make it more difficult and costly for fraudsters to compromise and gain unauthorized access to accounts, safeguarding the integrity of the platform and the privacy of the users.

Verifying your phone number



You can verify your phone number in the Manage account section, though this is optional.



To verify your number:

Go to the Profile section in your AfterShip Business admin.
Click Verify number. Add in your phone number along with the country code.
Click Send verification code. A message will be sent to your phone with the code.
Enter the received code in the Verification code field to complete the verification.

Upcoming enhancements



Product level verification


In the upcoming enhancement, phone number verification will be required to ensure your account meets specification qualifications for certain actions or features within an application. For example, when AfterShip Shipping users attempt to Add new carrier, those who haven’t verified their phone number will see the following popup asking them to first verify their phone number in order to proceed.



Troubleshooting verification code SMS issues



If you are encountering trouble receiving the verification code SMSes, it may be because of the following reasons.

Code validity: The verification code is valid for only 10 minutes. If you resend the code frequently, you may encounter an error message. If you reach the daily limit of sending verification code, please try again the next day.
Phone: Ensure your mobile phone is powered on and not in a suspended state. If your phone is in use, check if you have sufficient phone SMS balance before requesting a verification code.
Network connectivity: Ensure that you have a strong mobile signal.
Airplane mode: Confirm that your mobile’s airplane mode is turned off.
Message settings: Check if messages are being auto-deleted or blocked.
Message inbox space: Clear your phone’s inbox to free up memory space.
Restart phone: Restart your phone to improve SMS reception.
SIM card: If you still can't receive messages after trying the above steps, try removing and reinserting your SIM card.
